With Carta's latest feature, life sciences founders and HR leaders can make better compensation decisions using the most relevant salary and equity benchmarks available in the industry.

We’re excited to announce the latest expansion of Carta Total Comp: salary and equity benchmarking data tailored to the unique needs of the life sciences industry. With this new feature, life sciences founders and HR leaders can make better compensation decisions using the most relevant salary and equity benchmarks available in the industry.

With Carta Total Comp, you can already segment benchmarks by role, location, level, track, and peer group (i.e. company valuation) using compensation and equity data from thousands of private companies. But, we consistently heard from our life sciences customers that they needed specialized benchmarking data for roles that the tech sector doesn’t have, like scientists and research associates, to ensure fair and accurate compensation.

Now, you can view benchmarks for three specialized research roles in the life sciences space, curated using only life sciences companies’ data so you can hire with confidence.

  • Scientist (Levels 4 - 6)

  • Research Associate (Levels 1 - 3)

  • Lab Operations (Levels 1 - 5)

These roles use data from life sciences hotspots like Boston, San Diego, Seattle, and Los Angeles, as well as San Francisco and New York City, so you can offer competitive compensation in the markets where your employees live and work. Carta’s comprehensive data set captures salary and equity data from hundreds of early to mid-stage life sciences startups, so you can be sure you’re compensating competitively for your company size.

How it works

When you log into Carta, navigate to Carta Total Compensation and go to the “Benchmarks” tab. You can choose the location you’re interested in hiring in, and then within “Job Area,” you’ll select “Research.” Choose the “Life Sciences” industry, and then within “Specialization,” pick a role to see specific benchmarks using curated data from life sciences companies.
